Nearly 1000 Wines at the 10th Balkan International Wine Festival in Sofia in June
The 10th-anniversary edition of The Balkans International Wine Competition and Festival (BIWCF) will offer its visitors nearly 1,000 wines from Bulgaria, Greece, North Macedonia, Slovenia, Turkey, Albania, Romania, and Serbia. The large-scale event will take place in the open air in the specially created “Wine Town” in front of the National Palace of Culture from June 17 to 19. The Golden Tent with the awarded wines from the 10th Balkans International Wine Competition, held earlier in June in Skopje, is expected to receive the most attention.
This year the festival will hold the culmination of the competition part – the award ceremony “Balkan Wine Oscars 2021” – on the open stage in the Wine Town. The hosts will be BIWCF Director Galina Niforu and the Serbian judge Igor Lukovic. The guests on the spot will be the first to learn who are the winners of the Trophies in the different categories, the grand prize – the Grand Trophy, as well as the award “Best Winery in the Balkans”.
Mike Sax, the famous saxophonist, will take care of the musical background on the first opening day of the Festival (Thursday, June 17), and visitors will be able to try delicacies from different national cuisines. In the remaining days, you will be able to hear Balkan ethnic music performed by Brass Band Vivo Montana and opera program thanks to the Euro Atlantic Art Foundation, whose mission is to support disadvantaged children and youth, as well as those with special educational needs who are with outstanding talent in the field of arts.
“Organizing the Balkan International Wine Festival is always a real challenge that lasts for months. However, its tenth edition will be a real holiday! I am happy that BIWCF is already a trademark of quality wine and Balkan culture. I look forward to finding out which wines will be awarded in the competition in Skopje, as they will find a place in the Golden Tent in the wine town! ”, says Galina Niforu, Director of BIWCF.
You will find the full program for the Festival in the attachments, as well as on the BIWCF website.
